HD Modulators & HDMI Extenders with IR
An HD modulator distributes a signal from a Sky box, Freeview box or media player over existing coaxial cabling to multiple TVs. An HDMI extender with IR passes video point-to-point over Cat cable with infrared return so you can operate the source device from a separate room. We discuss the pros and cons for your specific setup before recommending which is right.

RF modulators are an older technology prone to interference and failure. We replace faulty RF modulators, typically with an HD modulator or HDMI extender, and do not install new RF systems.

Founded by Miles Williams, 2025
AVNZ was built on a simple premise: technical expertise is only half the job. The other half is communication. With a background spanning IT, teaching and psychology, Miles brings a perspective to installation work that most technicians don't have. He understands that every home and property has different needs, and takes the time to make sure you actually understand how your gear works before he leaves.
That combination of deep technical knowledge and clear explanation is what AVNZ is built on.

Before founding AVNZ, Miles spent 11 years as an AV, Sky TV and networking technician with two of New Zealand's prominent AV companies, working across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato region on residential and rural installations of all kinds. That's a decade-plus of real-world installs behind every job AVNZ takes on.

What is the standard callout rate?
The standard callout rate is $120 incl. GST. This covers the technician's time for the visit and standard service or diagnostic work. Materials (cable, connectors, brackets, hardware, etc.) are charged separately on top.
Can you fix slow or patchy WiFi in my home?
Yes. We diagnose existing network problems and install mesh WiFi systems and additional access points to eliminate dead spots. Many WiFi issues are caused by poor router placement or , both of which are straightforward to fix.
Do you install Starlink for rural and off-grid properties?
Yes, rural and remote connectivity is a core focus. We handle everything: site assessment, optimal dish positioning for your terrain, cable routing, weatherproofing and full network configuration. Pricing starts from $550 and is scope-dependent.
Can you connect sheds or outbuildings without running cable?
Yes. We install wireless bridges between buildings separated by hundreds of metres, connecting sheds, workshops, packhouses and sleepouts back to your main network without underground cable.
Can you help with Sky TV issues?
Yes. We can realign a Sky TV dish that has lost signal and troubleshoot Sky decoder problems. This is an independent service; AVNZ is not affiliated with Sky TV or Downer in any way.
Can you wall-mount my TV?
Yes, we wall-mount flat-screen TVs up to 60 inches. We do not install TVs larger than 60 inches (a limit in place for safe handling compliance).
Do you offer fixed pricing or written quotes?
Both. Fixed rates apply to standard jobs: aerial installation ($350), satellite dish ($500), standard callout ($120). Other jobs are quoted based on scope. You'll always have a confirmed price before work starts.
Is there a senior discount?
Yes. AVNZ offers a 15% discount on all fixed-price services for customers aged 65 and over. Simply let us know at the time of booking. We also regularly service residents across Metlifecare retirement villages in the Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty region.
Do you do AV pre-wiring for new builds?
Yes. We pre-wire for AV during new builds and renovations, covering aerial cable runs and HDMI wall plate positions before GIB closes. AV pre-wiring only; no speaker cabling.
Do you work with trade contractors?
Yes. We regularly sub-contract AV, satellite and network work for builders, electricians and project managers on residential builds across Tauranga and Western Bay of Plenty.
