Why a Standard Router Isn't Enough
Most internet providers hand you a single router and expect it to cover the whole property. For a small, single-level home, that's often fine. For anything bigger, older, or spread across more than one level, it usually isn't.

A single router pushes its signal outward in every direction from one point. Every wall, floor and piece of furniture it passes through weakens it further. By the time it reaches the back bedroom, the sleepout, or the home office above the garage, there's often not much signal left. That's a dead zone, and no amount of restarting the router fixes it.
On Bay of Plenty and rural Waikato properties specifically, we're also dealing with larger footprints than a standard suburban section: lifestyle blocks with multiple living areas, farm offices some distance from the house, and older homes with brick or concrete construction that swallows a weak signal fast.

Range Extender
A cheap, quick fix for one isolated weak spot. It rebroadcasts your existing signal under a separate network name, and you lose some speed in the process. Fine for a single room, not a whole property.
Mesh Network
Multiple units working together under one network name, handing your devices off seamlessly as you move around. Built for whole-property coverage, multiple dead zones, and larger homes or blocks.
Access Point
A wired unit that creates its own strong coverage bubble from a fixed point, connected back by cable. The best option when we can run a cable, since it doesn't lose any speed getting there.
Most rural properties end up with a mix: a mesh backbone through the main dwelling, with a wired access point covering a farm office or detached living space where we can get a cable to it.

- A proper walk-through, not a guess. We map where your dead zones actually are, and where devices are used most, before deciding how many nodes you need or where they go.
- Wired backhaul where it's possible. If we can run a cable between nodes, we will. A wired connection between mesh units performs noticeably better than nodes talking to each other wirelessly, especially over longer distances.
- Materials that actually matter. Brick, concrete and foil-backed insulation cut signal hard. A metal roof over your lounge generally doesn't, since the signal is broadcast from inside the house and never has to pass through it.
- Separate structures are a different problem. A detached shed, workshop or sleepout, especially one fully clad in metal, often can't be reached by adding another mesh node. That's usually a job for a dedicated wireless bridge instead, and we'll tell you plainly if that's what your site needs.
- Hardware suited to your property, not our default. We work with proven brands including Ruijie Reyee and TP-Link, and where your property calls for it, we can also source higher-powered, more amplified or wider-coverage mesh and access point options beyond what's listed here. We'll recommend whichever actually suits your size, budget and device load.
Common Mistakes We Get Called Out to Fix

- All the mesh nodes clustered near the router "for a strong connection between them," leaving the far end of the house uncovered.
- A cheap extender placed right at the edge of the existing dead zone, so it's rebroadcasting an already weak signal.
- A single ageing router trying to serve a household full of smart TVs, cameras and phones, none of it upgraded in years.
- Nodes left on their box factory settings, with no thought given to which devices should be on 2.4GHz versus 5GHz.
- An outdoor or shed connection attempted with a basic indoor extender that was never built to handle the distance or weather.
