Satellite Dish Installation & Independent Sky TV Assistance

Non-corrosive satellite dishes for free-to-air TV and low coverage areas, plus honest, independent help with an existing Sky TV setup. We're not affiliated with Sky TV or Downer, and we don't sell Sky decoders, but we've got years of experience keeping dishes aligned and decoders working properly.

Two Different Jobs Under One Roof

This service actually covers two different things, and it's worth being clear on which one applies to you. The first is satellite dish installation for free-to-air TV, supplying and fitting a non-corrosive dish where you need one. The second is independent Sky TV assistance, helping with an existing Sky setup: dish realignment, decoder troubleshooting, and multi-decoder or holiday-house setups.

We're upfront about the second one: AVNZ is not affiliated with Sky TV or Downer, and we don't sell or supply Sky decoders. What we do have is years of hands-on experience installing and servicing them, so we can diagnose and fix most issues without you needing to book a Sky technician.

When a Satellite Dish Makes Sense

Common situations where a satellite dish is the right call, from a corroded old dish through to low-coverage areas.

  • Replacing a corroded dish. Whether it's an old free-to-air dish or your existing Sky dish, a standard dish doesn't last forever on a coastal roof. We fit a non-corrosive replacement.
  • Low coverage areas. If your UHF aerial can't pull in enough signal, or any signal at all, satellite TV reaches areas terrestrial aerials simply can't. It's often the answer where an aerial install has already been tested and come up short.
  • Sized to your site. Dishes come in a few different sizes depending on your location and signal needs, we'll size it properly rather than defaulting to one option.
  • A non-corrosive alternative to a standard Sky dish. If you're a Sky customer whose dish keeps corroding, we can fit a better-built dish that's fully compatible with your existing decoder.

Independent Sky TV Assistance

We help with dish realignment after a storm or a knock, decoder troubleshooting when the picture drops out or won't tune, and setting up multiple decoders across a home or a holiday house.

If we get on site and find the decoder itself is actually the fault, not the dish or cabling, we'll tell you plainly. Since we don't sell Sky decoders, we'll help you order a replacement through your own Sky account, then reschedule the job for once the new decoder has arrived on site, rather than charging you a callout for a job we can't finish that day.

Getting Picture to Other TVs

If you want Sky or satellite picture in more than one room, the right option depends entirely on which decoder you have:

RF Modulator

The cheapest option, but an older analogue technology that's mostly redundant now. Only compatible with older black Kaon decoders, and the lowest picture quality of the options here.

HD Modulator / HDMI Extender

The right fit for newer white NSB decoders. Sends a proper digital signal to other TVs without the quality loss of an RF modulator.

HDMI Splitter

Worth considering over shorter distances, if your walls and ceiling space allow the cable run. We'll check accessibility before recommending it.

We'll check which decoder you actually have and what your site allows before recommending anything, not just reach for the cheapest box by default.

Common Mistakes We Get Called Out to Fix

The most common satellite and Sky TV mistakes we get called out to fix, from rusted dishes to rough guesswork realignment.

  • A standard dish and LNB arm rusted solid on a coastal roof, throwing the alignment out.
  • An RF modulator fitted to a newer white NSB decoder that was never going to support it, wasting money on a job that had to be redone.
  • A dish realigned by rough guesswork after a storm, instead of confirmed with a proper signal reading.
  • Multiple TVs jury-rigged off one decoder with no proper distribution, leaving picture quality inconsistent room to room.

The AVNZ Process

01

Assessment & Diagnosis

We work out whether it's genuinely a dish, cable, decoder or coverage issue before recommending anything.

02

Dish Supply, Install or Realignment

A non-corrosive dish sized to your site, or a proper realignment of your existing one, confirmed with a signal reading.

03

Decoder Support

Troubleshooting, multi-decoder or holiday-house setup, and honest advice if the decoder itself needs replacing.

04

Signal to Other TVs

The right distribution option for your decoder and site, not a default box regardless of compatibility.

05

Confirmed Price, No Surprises

Fixed rate from $500. Anything extra your site needs is confirmed before we start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you affiliated with Sky TV?
No. AVNZ is not affiliated with Sky TV or Downer. We're an independent installer with years of experience installing and servicing Sky dishes and decoders, but we don't sell or supply Sky decoders, that always goes through your own Sky account.
Can I use a satellite dish instead of an aerial if my signal is poor?
Yes. Free-to-air TV is also broadcast by satellite, so where a UHF aerial can't get enough signal, or none at all, a satellite dish is often the answer. Dishes come in a few different sizes depending on what your site needs.
My Sky dish is rusting or damaged, what are my options?
We can install a non-corrosive replacement dish that's fully compatible with your existing Sky decoder, giving you hardware built for the coast instead of the standard dish corroding again in a few years.
What happens if my Sky decoder turns out to be faulty?
If we're on site and diagnose the decoder itself as the fault, we'll help you order a replacement and reschedule the job for once the new decoder has arrived. We don't sell Sky decoders ourselves, so that part goes through your own Sky account.
Do you supply satellite decoders or streaming devices?
Generally no, we don't sell or supply these as a retail product. Where it's genuinely needed, we can supply a free-to-air satellite decoder or an IPTV streaming device under standard retail warranty, if it develops a fault, we'll collect it and return it to the supplier for replacement under the Consumer Guarantees Act. Sky decoders are different and are never supplied by us.
Can you get picture to multiple TVs from one Sky decoder?
Depends on your decoder and site. Older black Kaon decoders can use an RF modulator, though it's an older analogue technology and mostly redundant now. Newer white NSB decoders need an HD modulator or HDMI extender instead. Over a short distance with suitable wall and ceiling access, an HDMI splitter can also work. We'll assess your decoder and site before recommending which one is actually worth paying for.
