What a Wireless Bridge Actually Does
A wireless bridge isn't the same thing as extending your WiFi. It's a dedicated, direct link between two fixed points, effectively an invisible network cable running from your main building to a separate one. Whatever's connected at the far end, a farm office, security cameras, a second dwelling, gets full network access at close to the same speed as if it were wired.

This is different from mesh WiFi, which spreads coverage around inside one building or a tight cluster of buildings using shared nodes. If your problem is a dead zone in the back bedroom, that's mesh. If your problem is a separate structure that WiFi simply can't reach, that's a bridge.

Standard Point-to-Point
The right fit for connecting your main house to a single nearby building with a clear line of sight, typically effective over shorter rural distances. Covers a second dwelling, workshop or shed on one direct link.
Long-Range & Multi-Building
For larger properties needing to reach further, or cover several separate buildings at once, a more powerful base station can act as a hub, with multiple remote buildings connecting back to one central point instead of needing a dedicated link for every structure.
Omni-Directional Outdoor Coverage
Not a point-to-point link at all. This broadcasts WiFi across an open outdoor area, an orchard, yard or packing shed, for handheld devices, sensors or cameras working outside without needing to be near a building.
We'll walk your property, talk through what actually needs connecting, and recommend the right mix. Sometimes that's one simple bridge, sometimes it's a hub with several buildings connected off it.
Covering multiple buildings from one hub? We'll usually add a network switch at that location. A switch takes one incoming connection and splits it into several wired ports, so multiple bridges, access points or cameras can all connect from the same spot instead of each needing its own separate link back to the router. A managed switch (TP-Link Omada) also lets us power outdoor equipment over the same cable, cutting down on separate power runs to remote mounting points, and gives us central control over the whole setup rather than managing every device on its own.
Why Not Just Run a Cable?
Sometimes you should. If the distance is short and trenching is straightforward, a physical cable is more stable long-term and we'll say so plainly rather than sell you a wireless setup you don't need.

But trenching across paddocks, driveways or any real distance gets expensive fast, and isn't always practical on leased land, near council boundaries, or across ground you don't want dug up. A wireless bridge gets you the same result, one shared connection across both buildings, without the digging, and it's usually a fraction of the cost.
Worth knowing: we don't do groundworks or trenching ourselves. If a wired run genuinely is the better option for your site, that digging needs to be arranged separately, and we can supply, terminate and configure the cable and network gear once it's in the ground, or advise on the right cable if you're organising a contractor yourself.

- Line of sight, properly assessed. The two mounting points need a reasonably clear path between them. It's not just about what's directly in the way today, it's what might grow into the way.
- Seasonal thinking. A path that's clear in winter can be blocked by a shelterbelt or orchard canopy once it leafs out in summer. We plan mounting height around the full growing season, not the day of install.
- Mounting height and stability. Antennas mounted too low get blocked by fences, vehicles, or a hedge that's grown six months later. A rigid, properly elevated mount keeps the link aligned through wind and weather.
- The right frequency and equipment for the distance. Shorter, high-throughput links and longer-range farm-to-shed links call for different hardware. We size the equipment to your actual distance and speed needs rather than a one-size-fits-all box.
- Proper outdoor cabling and power. Weatherproof, correctly glanded cable runs and PoE (power over the network cable) done properly, so water ingress and corrosion aren't a problem two summers from now.

- Units mounted low on a wall or fence post, then blocked by a vehicle, growing hedge, or new fence line months later.
- No allowance for seasonal foliage, so the link that worked fine in winter drops out completely by summer.
- A basic indoor WiFi extender used to try to bridge a real farm-to-shed distance, well outside what it was ever built for.
- Cabling run without proper outdoor-rated glands or weatherproofing, leading to corrosion and intermittent faults.
- Antennas roughly pointed "close enough," never properly aligned or tested under real load.
If your site genuinely doesn't have a workable line of sight, we'll tell you that upfront rather than install something that won't hold up. Sometimes a second connection really is the better answer.
